Newborn Session - Prep Guide

First of all, Congratulations!

You just welcomed a new little babe in to this world, congratulations!

This is such an exciting time for your and your family but I know it can quickly become very overwhelming.

Don't worry, I'm here to help and together we can capture some beautiful memories!

Newborns are ideally done from 4-16 days new, this is the sleepiest, smooshiest time.

Depending on your baby, sessions typically take 2-4 hours, don't worry if your baby is a bit fussy, this is normal and I have all the patience in the world.

A few notes about the studio:

The studio is located at 103 Nottingham Drive, in the heart of Quispamsis, NB.

The studio entrance is located around the back on the LEFT side of the building.

We have ample parking as the driveway is U-shaped, however we have a very large deer population, so please be cautious in the area and definitely in the driveway.

Speaking of deer, some are more curious than others.

In many cases, there may be deer in the yard when you arrive. If you start moving, they will leave. However occasionally you may get one peeking in the studio window, curious about your little baby!

Don't stress out!

  • New parents try their best but sometimes you run late. Don't worry, I get it. Just shoot me a message and let me know if you're a few minutes behind schedule. You're doing your best and I appreciate that!
  • Cranky toddlers and fussy newborns are NORMAL, honest!
  • Shit happens! Don't worry, babies are new, they don't know social protocol yet ;)
  • Expect me to be calm and fun loving, it's who I am and staying calm helps keep the baby calm.
The day of the session:

Keep baby awake for an hour or so before the session.

I understand it's not always possible but if you can, keep them awake and stimulated on the drive to the studio as well. This helps make the baby extra sleepy and the deeper the sleep the smoother your session will go.

Feed baby right before the session.

You can feed the baby before your leave and "top" them up when you arrive or feel free to feed the baby after you have arrived. Full bellies help the baby stay happy and a happy sleepy baby is best!

The studio will be warm!

Babies do not like to be naked and cold so we like to keep the studio at an increased tempterature to assist with keeping your little one comfortable during the session. Please feel free to bring a change of clothes if you feel you may get too warm!

There is no need to bring anything for baby to wear.

I provide all the wraps & props. Unless there is something special you want to bring for your newborn’s photos, don’t worry about wardrobe. If there is something special you want to bring, be sure to let me know in advance so I can plan accordingly.

Bringing Siblings?

Sessions can last from 2-4 hours so I always do siblings and family shots first so that if able, the older siblings can leave once their photos are done. Many families have Dad come seperately or a Grandparent comes by to take the kids until the session is over since it would be a long time to wait. This allows me to focus solely on baby and their safety.

Babies need breaks too!

It's common to need to stop the session for a few minutes to soothe and settle baby. This can mean many things, it could just be a bit of cuddling, a diaper change or a feeding. Don't stress because this is completely normal!

Wardrobe, what to wear for the non-babies.

What to avoid:

  • Avoid logos and writing on shirts,
  • Bold patterns
  • Chunky/heavy knits
  • Say NO to neons!

Say YES to:

  • Light-colored shirts in creams, light grays, and pastels.
  • Prefer darker? Charcoal, blacks and or de-saturated tones.
  • Keeping it simple and classic
  • Moms, wear something that makes you feel BEAUTIFUL.
  • Dads wear something that compliments mom's outfit.
  • Long or 3/4 sleeve shirts

Forgot something?

I do my best to keep the studio stocked with diapers, wipes, spare pacifers, water and even snacks! Don't panic, I've got you.

Saw something you love?

Have you seen a post of mine that you love on social media or my website? Hoping to use it in your session? Don't hesitate to ask, letting me know in advance allows me time to plan.

Relax, we got this.

Don't worry, come and enjoy your session. Relax while I capture beautiful images of your baby. This should not be a stressful time, bask in the few free moments.
